Our Tutor training scheme is designed as an essential resource for teachers who wish to develop their teaching skills and understanding the required practicalities of tutoring.
Whether you are new to tutoring or you wish to refresh your knowledge, there is a course option to suit you. We offer tutor training days and online courses for which allows you the freedom to complete the training at a time that suits your existing commitments and busy schedule. Tutor Training is essential for tutors within Approved Dance Centres and Distance Learning Tutors who wish to become approved in order to tutor the specific units of the Diploma in Dance Education (DDE).
The Level 4 Diploma in Dance Education (DDE) can only be delivered by the Approved Dance Centres (ADC). Only registered and trained Approved Tutors may teach the DDE Course; Approved Tutors are required to complete the mandatory online tutor training course before they may start to teach and enter DDE learners.
Approved Dance Centres must ensure all their Approved Tutors undergo regular continuous professional development (CPD). Furthermore, the Society strongly recommends that all Approved Tutors hold clear enhanced DBS disclosures, or the equivalent for countries outside the UK (although this is not a legal requirement). Approved Tutor Applications must be submitted by the Approved Dance Centre. The application should include the following:
All applications must be sent to pqmanager@istd.org
There is no application fee. Approval confirmation may take between 7 to 10 working days.
The Society’s Quality Assurance Department will review and confirm the outcome to the ADC in writing. Tutors are initially approved to train to tutor the DDE Course in specified genre(s) and units. New tutors are required to work under the supervision of an experienced Approved Tutor for a duration of two years or longer.
Once approved, new tutors may enrol for the mandatory online tutor training course. Approved Tutors will not be given access to the online learning management platform (Totara) until after completion of the mandatory tutor training course. Upon completion of tutor training, Approved Tutors will be notified that they may now start to teach and enter learners under supervision if applicable and will be issued with an Approved Tutor Number which must be used when entering learners.
