Cecchetti Classical Ballet has a rich heritage and combines a clear and logical pathway of technical progression with inherent musicality and a unique sense of style. The Cecchetti Method and principles have been formative in the training of many of the world’s greatest ballet dancers, choreographers and directors.
Enrico Cecchetti (1850-1928) was one of the most important influences on the foundations of modern Classical Ballet training. He evolved a method of training in the 19th Century working with professional dancers including Pavlova and Nijinsky, that is as relevant today as it was when first created.
Enrico's influence on British Ballet has been far-reaching. The Cecchetti principles of training continue to produce outstanding artistic and technically accomplished dancers, able to work with today’s directors across a spectrum of ballet and contemporary companies.
There is a range of ways to encourage, support and promote participation in Cecchetti Classical ballet for both children and for vocational students. Our competitions are noted for their welcoming atmosphere, and it is in this environment that students are encouraged to demonstrate their performing and choreographic skills in a number of events.
We offer examinations and qualifications for children, students and teachers that are nationally and internationally recognised for their excellence. Enjoyment is of prime importance for a young child beginning to dance and the Class Examinations are ideal for those attending classes for recreational purposes on a once a week basis. For children wishing to study in greater depth, there are the more technically demanding Grade Examinations. In all the children's work, a steady build-up and safe practice are of great importance.
Vocational examinations for older students and those at vocational schools are soundly based on Cecchetti principles and promote strength and coordination, together with a quality of movement which is second to none. The Enrico Cecchetti Diploma is the culmination of a study of the method and is for the professional dancer.
"The Cecchetti work has given me strength, discipline, and coordination. It wasn't until I got into the company that I realised how lucky I was to have had that training."

Young dancers are at the heart of the Cecchetti training and Cecchetti Classical Ballet provides outstanding opportunities for talented young dancers who would like to extend their learning experience and join with others to improve and broaden their training. Activities include the Cecchetti Scholarship Scheme and Cecchetti Summer Schools for young dancers and for students.
The Cecchetti Society Classical Ballet Faculty is delighted to have the support of Patrons Dame Monica Mason DBE, Sir David Bintley KBE, Kevin O'Hare CBE and Lesley Collier CBE, to support and promote this outstanding training method, and celebrate the heritage of this technique. Dame Darcey Bussell DBE is Patron of the Cecchetti Centre.
Our Faculty Committees are the vital link between the members of the Society and the staff and trustees and provide a two-way channel for communication and consultation with the wider membership body.
