Tap - New Advanced 1 (Day 1)

This course will introduce teachers to some of the content of the new Advanced 1 Tap syllabus. Day 1 will include the technical drills, timesteps, rhythm and a selected technical sequence. This course is suitable for teachers delivering Advanced 1 Tap, Licentiates and/or Fellowships. This course is also appropriate for anyone wanting to develop free work ideas if they are teaching non syllabus tap work to higher level students.

Day 5: Sunday 16 April, 08:30-15:30
Tap - New Advanced 1 (Day 2)

This course will introduce teachers to some of the content of the new Advanced 1 Tap syllabus. Day 2 will include selected technical sequences, the turning sequence and the amalgamations. This course is suitable for teachers delivering Advanced 1 Tap, Licentiates and/or Fellowships. This course is also appropriate for anyone wanting to develop free work ideas if they are teaching non syllabus tap work to higher level students. All delegates must have attended the day 1 course, before attending day 2. Day 2 will refer to content discussed on day 1, therefore attendees will be expected to have a working knowledge of all content previously covered.  

Wendy O'Dowd - Modern Theatre and Tap lecturer and examiner

Wendy started her full time Dance training at the Dance School of Scotland after being a junior associate at Scottish Ballet. She then continued her studies at Laine Theatre Arts.  
Her professional career as a dancer took her around the world as well as performing in London. Returning home, she embarked on her teaching career. 
After continuing her teaching qualifications Wendy became a dual examiner for the ISTD in 2004 and has progressed to examining at Vocational and DDE level exams.  
Wendy is also on the teaching teams for both ISTD Modern and Tap faculties and has delivered student and teacher courses both in the UK and Internationally, allowing her to teach in many countries all over the world.  
Wendy has extensive teaching experience, and she has taught at many schools and full-time colleges. She currently teaches at Italia Conti, Wilkes Academy, and is a teacher training tutor at Bird college and Laine Theatre Arts. She also coaches Licentiate Tap at Dance Teachers Inc. 
Wendy has always had a passion for conditioning for dancers, injury prevention and rehabilitation which naturally led her towards Pilates, and she became a qualified Pilates Mat teacher in 2019.  
Wendy is also a qualified RAD teacher and certified PBT teacher.

Once we receive your completed booking form, you will be sent a payment link. Your place is only confirmed once we receive the payment and you receive a confirmation email.

Times and dates

Please note that all course dates and times are stated in local time. Courses will include time for breaks; however, the exact timing of this break may vary from day to day. 

Closing dates

Bookings for this course close 3 days before it is due to take place. However, if you contact us via email coursebookings@istd.org we may be able to manually book you onto the course. For any delegates who attend on the day without prior payment, we reserve the right to apply a 10% surcharge onto the cost of the course.

Additional discounts are available for student teachers with provisional membership status.

Course cancellations

Courses are subject to cancellation and will be confirmed or cancelled by 28 February 2025, if the minimum attendee numbers have not been reached. Therefore we strongly advise that all attendees book well in advance to avoid disappointment. 

Lecturers

In the instance of a change to availability, we may need to find an alternative lecturer (than the one originally scheduled) to lead a course. This will not affect the content covered in the course.

CPD hours

All hours stated next to each course refer to the earned CPD hours. This will be reflected on each certificate of attendance that you will receive.

Due to the nature of this activity the following terms and conditions apply.

• A non-refundable deposit of £200 (ISTD member)/£250 (non-member) if booking any course other that than the Advanced 1 modern (1 day) is required to secure your place by 15 February. Bookings placed after 15 February will have to be paid in full at the time of booking.  The balance will be due on 14 March.
• If you are just booking the Advanced 1 modern, you will need to pay in full. 50% of the fee will be the non-refundable deposit.
• Should the ISTD be required to cancel the course due to low delegate uptake then the deposit will be refunded to members.
• The event will be confirmed or cancelled by the ISTD by 28 February 2025. 
• Delegates are advised to book refundable travel and/or accommodation, as the ISTD will not refund any incurred costs if the event does not take place.
• Should the delegate cancel their booking the ISTD will follow the cancellation table as outlined below with regards to refunds, unless in exceptional mitigating circumstances.
• In the event that delivery is affected by a local lockdown or any other force majeure, we will do our best to make alternative arrangements in order to ensure the course can go ahead. However, if this is not possible, delegates will be contacted and offered a refund or a credit note.
• Where the attendee tests positive for Covid-19, via a PCR or lateral flow (RAT) test, and the period of compulsory self-isolation means they are unable to attend the event - a full credit note will be issued. The credit note is to be used within 24 months of the event date and refunds will not be issued.
• This does not affect your statutory rights.
• Delegates are responsible for their own personal property and safety. The ISTD cannot accept any responsibility for theft, loss or damage caused to personal effects.
• Filming or photography of the event is not permitted without written permission being provided in advance by the ISTD.
• Photographs/film may be taken throughout the event by an official representative of the ISTD for publicity purposes.

Consent and release form

ISTD is committed to the principle that the interests and welfare of participants taking part in dance activities is paramount. To comply with the Data Protection Act 1998, ISTD needs your permission before we take any photography or video of you.
By acknowledging and agreeing to these terms, I consent to ISTD photographing or videoing me at this event. I can confirm that I have been made aware that these images or video could be used in dance related publications, the ISTD website, at future events and broadcast on social media or video streaming services. I give the ISTD permission without time limit to use this photography or video (including facial images) worldwide on any medium.

Cancellation fees:

• Up to 26 days before the first day of the event – deposit is non-refundable
• 25-16 days before the first day of the event - 50% cancellation fee (deposit is non-refundable)
• 15-8 days before the first day of the event - 75% cancellation fee (deposit is non-refundable)
• 7 days or less before the first day of the event - 100% cancellation fee
