ISTD uses DBS Umbrella Body partner DDC to assist with the processing of enhanced DBS checks for members in the UK, through the ISTD Vetting and Barring Scheme. Over the past few years, there have been some improvements to the service which are now available to make the process more efficient and accurate.
These enhancements incorporate modern, efficient tools that simplify DBS checks and ensure compliance with safeguarding standards.
From 1 February 2025 our partnership with DDC introduces the following features to the process, making it faster and more convenient*:
- Online Form & Digital Identity Verification(**): You will be able to complete their DBS check application online from the comfort of their homes. The process is straightforward and quick, utilising DDC’s digital identity verification service.
- Instant UK Passport Verification(***): By using a current UK passport, you will be able to confirm your identity in just minutes, speeding up the process. If you utilise the DDC ID mobile app, you will no longer need to post documents to DDC.
- Online payment: Payment for your application can now be made online via credit or debit card
Please note:
* The service enhancements will initially be available only to members in England and Wales.
** If you do not possess a UK Passport issued after 2016 you will still be required to post identity documents to DDC. You still benefit from completing an electronic application form and DDC’s quick turnaround time.
*** Members will not have to use the digital identity verification route and will still be able to choose the more manual route and send documents for DDC to verify. There is no additional cost for either route.
DBS Fee Changes – Effective 2nd December 2024
Please note that the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) has increased its fees.
- The enhanced DBS check fee is now £49.50.
- The total cost, including administration, and VAT is £73.50 for active members accessing the ISTD scheme through DDC.
