  5. The ISTD join the #TaketheLead campaign

24 June 2024

We know that dance is for everyone- regardless of age, gender, ability, or fitness level.
Our Find Your Dance Space campaign shines a light on the ability to connect with a safe and supportive dance space and ISTD qualified teacher, whilst highlighting how dance has impacted lives for the better - speaking directly to some of our ISTD students and teachers.

With proven benefits to mental and physical health, our campaign advocates for encouraging more people to discover a dance style and space to best suit their personality and lifestyle, and benefit from the effects of movement and activity that comes with dance.

Alongside this campaign, we have joined a coalition of more than 200 bodies, athletes, businesses and charities across health, sport, recreation, and physical activity to call on political leaders to #TakeTheLead and commit to making the UK the most active nation in Europe.

Ahead of the General Election in the UK, an open letter was submitted by the Active Partnerships network, the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity, the Sport and Recreation Alliance, the Sport for Development Coalition, ukactive and the Youth Sport Trust. Combined, these organisations represent thousands of organisations, gyms, swimming pools, leisure centres, sports governing bodies, and professionals across the UK.

The open letter outlines the opportunity for "sport, recreation and physical activity" to "be at the heart of the next Government’s mission to transform Britain", taking "inspiration from our leaders across sport, recreation and physical activity – to step up and make it happen."

It goes on to state; "by supporting more people to be more active, we can help take the pressure off the NHS, boost the productivity and economic growth of the working age population by helping more people to stay in work, strengthen our schools and get upstream of physical and mental health issues in childhood, improve overall health and wellbeing and create more connected, inclusive communities."

We are proud to be supporting this campaign, alongside our Find Your Dance Space activities. Read the full letter and list of organisations taking part in the #Takethelead campaign here.
If you would like to support the campaign, share the letter and campaign via social media, using the hashtag #Takethelead.
