DANCING AT HOME
Keep dancing through lockdown
Now we’re spending more time than ever at home, our Box Dance initiative is the perfect way to keep members moving. Developed to adhere to social distancing rules, it's time to think inside the box.
What is the Box Dance method?
Based on our professionally constructed syllabus, the method challenges the conventional two-partner dance tradition of the Dancesport genres (Latin, Ballroom) and inspires creative dancing and technique in the already expressive genre.
We're providing Society members who specialise in Dancesport with teaching tools to help them teach in a socially distanced/lockdown environment.
Box Dance enables teachers and their students to continue their training and social interaction, giving you the tools to teach and learn safely and effectively
The 'Box'
The creation of the Box is simple: using dimensions between 1.5m to 2m, using tape or similar, dancers create their own dance floor at home or in the studio (making sure there is plenty of space, of course).
Guidelines
Within the 'Box' frame, dancers are challenged to practice solo work with increased focus on technique, footwork and placement.
Teachers and pupils can find and download some easy to follow guidelines in the member’s area of our website, including professionally constructed syllabus dance sheets and videos to help you keep inspired.
Box Dance Assessments
Focusing on natural development in technique and performance, see the syllabus outline in the members' area for information about the structure for all current Box Dance Assessments.
Students can take assessments across the five levels of:
- Modern Ballroom
- Latin American
- Classical Sequence
- Alternative Rhythms.
